Project Scope

Despite novel innovations and solutions, transitioning to cleaner practices and methodologies has been challenging for many due to the inherent uncertainties associated with adopting and integrating new approaches. This situation has created a demand for innovative solutions that provide accurate decision support and assessments. With this in mind, the EU-funded ARGONAUT project will develop an efficient and user-friendly AI digital tool to calculate the climate and environmental impacts of bio-based products throughout their value chain. Additionally, the project will deliver a decision-support tool to recommend alternative, more sustainable actions and decisions. Through these efforts, it will support small and medium-sized producers while significantly assisting in the implementation of the EU’s Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation.

Objective

ARGONAUT’s objective is to develop an effective and accessible AI tool that calculates the environmental impact of different biobased products across six different value chains. These value chains calculations will be based on language models supported by global literature, grounded on LCA principles, allowing secure tracking through digital passports based on blockchain technology.

Additionally, ARGONAUT will contribute to the integration of digital technologies such as AI and blockchain with the environmental assessment methodology – Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). The integrated tool will assist medium and small producers to navigate through the bioeconomic sector by means of relevant information, privacy guaranties, and a user-friendly interface.

Furthermore, ARGONAUT will aid the implementation of the EU’s eco-design for sustainable products regulation, enabling an accurate depiction of six biobased products, thereby supporting the development of a more sustainable value chain and the transition towards a circular bioeconomy in the EU.
